We are pleased to announce that we now have a new 10-day Creative Writing Course for 'O' Levels entitled "How to Add Life & Colour to Your Narrative & Personal Recount Compositions"!
This course will benefit Sec 3 Exp, Sec 4 Exp & Sec 5 NA students who would like to improve their writing skills.
We also welcome Sec 2 Exp, Sec 3 NA & Sec 4NA students who are keen to improve in English.
Contact Mrs Yap (97456398) asap to book a seat for your child.
If your child would like to attend this course, but our schedule clashes with his, you can request for a new group to be started, with classes on days that your child (and our trainer, of course!) can make it.
And if you can get 5 other students to join your child, the group will be confirmed.
Watch this space for the next course. If you would rather not wait, you can get 5 other students to join your child, then discuss the schedule with Mrs Yap (Tel: 97456398) and the course can begin once the dates / timing are agreed upon.
MYTH:
There are no narrative writing questions in Paper 1 of the 'O' Level English Language Examination.
TRUTH:
This is no longer true.
In the 2017 paper, the narrative question began with "Write about a time when you caused [something],
and
in the 2018 paper, the narrative question began with "I had never seen [something happen]", and the students were asked to write about a time when "this" happened.
These questions fall under a specific category of narrative writing called Personal Recount Writing.
Even if your child's strength is in descriptive or argumentative writing, it is good to arm him / her with good narrative writing skills, because who knows what will happen when he / she sits for the 'O' Level EL Paper?
If there aren't any descriptive or argumentative writing questions, or if they are too difficult, or your child feels too uninspired by them and is likely to end up writing a mediocre essay, then he / she may have no choice but to tackle the narrative question. But if he / she has not been trained to write narrative essays, then your child will be at a great disadvantage.
Ensuring that your child can write good narrative essays gives your child more options when it comes to tackling Paper 1.
And this is where we can help. Our trainer, Marife Cruz Yap, will be conducting a 10-day Narrative Writing Course for upper sec students on Saturday mornings, from this Saturday, 23 February 2019.
